It started out as a rainy day!!! – Every July the World commemorates #PlasticFreeJuly as a month set aside to raise awareness on plastic pollution, and since July was also a #YaliServes Month to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s Birthday we also decided make mark it as a #YaliServesEvent

“We didn’t know that these kind of groups exist in this part of the country, it’s good you are here to sensitize the people because this place is always messed up.”
We had earlier made an advocacy visit to the beach maintenace committee so they could rally other members of the beach community to join us. As soon as the rains subsided we got down to work – sadly our bin bags were filled in no time with so much plastics; straws, plastic bottles, disposable cups and plates, even diapers!!!

The beach maintenance committee chairman shared that he had to routinely lend cleaning materials like rake and hoe to clean up the beach as they had no cleaning materials designated to them. We shared ours with them and a few bins for the routine cleanup exercise.
